    Grateful for Amicus

I had been through multiple programs before I ended up Amicus. Maybe I wasn’t ready before. I know that when I first rolled up to Amicus, and for my first few days, I complained about everything and was trying everything to convince myself and my family why I shouldn’t be there.

Once I realized that I wasn’t there for a vacation, that nobody was going to wave a magic wand to make me better, and that my family wasn’t going to listen to my BS anymore, I guess I made a decision to really try. Once I made that decision the entire situation and my outlook on Amicus House changed. I am so grateful that Lori and my counselor didn’t put up with my manipulating ways and made it clear that I needed to do the work if I wanted to stay clean and sober. They were also able to convince my family to stop enabling me which really passed me off at first, but Is something that I will forever be grateful for.

I hated some of the things we had to do. I hated having to clean and cook and all of the writing. I didn’t understand what the point was. But, after staying there for 2 months then in the SLE for an additional 9 months, I have been clean and sober ever since (13 years). Having to do those little things, having to deal with other clients/ room mates, having to follow those stupid rules, all of those things ended up helping me to learn how to live on my own and stop relying on my family.

I am grateful to that old house, the staff for being straight forward, and to Lori for being hard on my family and explaining that if they didn’t cut me off that i would likely never change.

I’m very impressed with Lori and her team. They are dedicated to helping others and have stayed true to their mission by providing an affordable treatment program. The nation needs more programs like amicus house.
