We opened in 1969 as Model Cities Health Corporation, some portion of President Lyndon Johnson’s Model Cities program. Our first center was in the storm cellar of the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church.
That first year, with 20 workers and a $100,000 spending plan, we served in excess of 2,000 patients. Today, Swope Health has developed to give care to in excess of 40,000 patients in western Missouri and eastern Kansas. We are a Federally Qualified Health Center and Federal Tort Claims Act-regarded office, perceived by the NCQA.
