When used as prescribed, both methadone and suboxone can be safely taken while in treatment. Methadone and suboxone do not impair the ability to drive, work, or perform normal ordinary activities. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), methadone is medically safe even when used continually for 10 years or more. All medication in our treatment program is used under medical supervision. With this in mind, methadone and suboxone and be taken safely without any damaging side effects. Methadone and suboxone is a well-tested medication that is safe and efficacious for the treatment of opiate dependence. At the correct dose, there is no impairment to mental function or daily activities. These medications are prescribed and distributed by licensed nurses with the approval of our on-site doctor, under strict state and federal guidelines.
